Liqun Roast Duck Restaurant

Occupying a small courtyard house in a hutong(胡同) in the old part of Qianmen,Liqun Roast Duck Restaurant's(利群烤鸭店) charm lies partly in its setting. Signs in English pasted on brick walls will guide you towards its narrow entrance and into an enclosed courtyard. You will then be shepherded to one of several tiny dining rooms, which seem not to have changed in decades.

There are no prizes for guessing the kitchen's specialty, and the chefs do an excellent job of it. But there are other dishes too, all listed clearly on the English-language menu. Photographs of politicians and ambassadors hang on the walls; this place is no longer a secret, and you should book in advance.
