Department of Immunology
Department of Immunology derived from the Department of Microbiology. It was founded in 1986. The director is Prof. Jin Boquan. As a PLA key medical laboratory (Lab of Molecular Virology and Molecular Immunology) and national "211 Project" priority discipline, it can grant the Doctor and Master degrees.
Research Fields:
1.The structure and function of novel immune membrane molecule: We have identified the structure and function of a new human leukocyte differentiation antigen---- platelet and T cell activation antigen 1(PTA1) and 9.1 C3/Leukocyte Associate Immunoglobulin-like Receptor-1 (LAIR-1), and several members of TNF/TNFR super family. A panel of monoclonal antibodies recognizing different epitopes of the molecules above has been raised. Based on a pair of monoclonal antibodies, a sandwich ELISA kit for quantitative detection of sPTA1 has been established. Among the molecules, PTA1 was nominated as CD226 in the 7th International Workshop on Human Leukocyte Differentiation Antigens in July 2000, and also PTA1 is the first molecule getting a novel CD designation in China. This is one of the top-10 of China health and medicine technology in 2000 news. Since the "9th 5-Years Project", we have gained 11 grants supported by the National Nature Science Foundation, and one grant supported by "973" National Key Basic Research and Develop Project.
2.Viral Infection and Cellular Immunology: Since the "9th 5-Years Project", we have gained 2 grants supported by the National Nature Science Foundation, and one key grant supported by PLA "the 10th 5-Years Project" Health and Medicine Research Foundation.
3.Monoclonal antibody and its application: Cooperating with Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research USA, we founded International Antibody Research and Development Center in 2001. Totally US$550,000 of two international collaboration funds has been provided by LICR. Now, 80 kinds of mAbs are able to be produced per year, and it is expected to have 200 kinds of hybridomas out annually in the coming 1~2 year.
There are one full professor and 2 associate professors. One is doctoral supervisor and 2 are tutors for Master students. Since 1986, a total of 69 postgraduates-- 26 doctoral students(17 have graduated) and 43 postgraduate level(33 have graduated)-- have been admitted to pursue their academic achievements.
