CHINA'S four-time Olympic champion Fu Mingxia wed Hong Kong's former wealthy financial secretary Antony Leung in 2002, the man is 27 years older than Fu. The pair's love story began in March 2001 when they met at an award ceremony in Hong Kong. The two people were seated together and talked a lot. Fu recalled that Leung took out his electronic notebook and taught her how to play some small games. Fu said she felt Leung is a very amiable man. Leung divorced his wife in 1998. They have no children.
Before succeeding Donald Tsang as financial secretary in May 2001, Leung served in senior management positions for several international banks. According to Leung's report to the Hong Kong SAR government about his private property when he took the post last May, Leung owns seven houses and three office buildings in Singapore, Hong Kong, the United States and the Chinese mainland. He also owns two luxury houses together with his ex-wife in Hong Kong valued at HK$30 million. It is estimated that his personal property tops HK$100 million.
Fu's finances are not bad either. Her reward for the Olympic champions for three consecutive years runs into the millions of yuan. She ranked number one among all sports stars in the country for advertising income. It is estimated that Fu's yearly income also surpasses 10 million yuan ($1.2 million). Fu's diving heroics had made her a national star. She became the youngest World Champion in 1991 at age 12, and followed that up with gold in the 1992 Olympics. She captured two gold medals four years later at the Atlanta Games and struck gold again in Sydney 2000.
