Department of Histology and Embryology
Department of histology and embryology was found on September 1954, it could confer master's degree as early as in 1990. In 1998, according to the nation education ministry's discipline revise plan, the department of histology and embryology was integrated with anatomy into a new speciality which can confer doctor's degree. It is the member of the postdoctoral exchanging center for basic medicine and key constructing discipline of the National "211 Project" The department is "Changjiang Scholar Award Plan" inviting professor site and the Key Discipline of P.R.China in 2002.
Research Areas:
1. Studies on the bioactive substances in digestive system: This is the research area we have been giving priority to develop, the main finding is that the biological phenomena of autocrine is exists universally in digestive system. The studies on this topic has gained 2 Chinese Natural Science Foundation support and won a 3rd prizes of National Science and Technology Advance.
2. Studies on the biology of reproduction: This research area contains three subdivisions, they are the developmental control of reproductive cells by bioactive substances, basic study on placenta 's function and molecular basis for fetal malformation development. The research topic has gained 1 Chinese Natural Science Foundation and 1 National Family-planning Committee Foundation support. The research also won a 2nd prizes of Military Science and Technology Advance.
3. Antibody engineering and gene vaccine : Since 1986, we hace successfully many kinds of antiserum such as 5-HT, NPY, DA and 5-HT anti-idiotypic, which have been used in 27 provinces and municipalities. This research was aided financially by 2 National "863" projects on cceanic creatures and also won two 2nd prizes of Military Science and Technology Advance.
Staff and Postgraduate Fostering:
At present the department have 2 professors and 2 associate professors. Up to year 2002, There have 26 postgraduates admitted to our department have got their academic degrees, among them 11 have got doctor's degree. 2 co-fostering doctor candidates with Hong Kong University also have got doctor's degree.
