Statistics show that more than 430,000 self-employed people in the United States are using eBay, the online auction website, to buy and sell goods. Although the number of online traders has only just surpassed 10,000 in China, many in the country are beginning to see the Internet as a promising choice.
Travel is another area where this method of doing business is bound for success. Some e-commerce travel agencies in China now have online systems in addition to traditional telephone sales, designed to take advantage of a growing domestic travel market that has emerged in the last two years. One of the main benefits of e-commerce is that it knows no boundaries and allows Chinese entrepreneurs to access Western businesses.
In whatever way, the e-commerce market in China is a gold mine of opportunities laced with attendant risks for both national and international Internet companies.
