A native of today's Wujiang, East China's Jiangsu Province, Lu Guimeng(陆龟蒙) was an agronomist and a poet during the late Tang Dynasty (618-907).
Lu Guimeng, also known as Tiansuizi(天随子), Jianghu Sanren or Mr. Puli, had been an assistant to the prefecture governor at his time. Later, he quit the job and spent most of his life in seclusion on his estate, writing poetry and essays. Collection of Essays of Mr. Pu was one of his major works.
He engaged himself in farming and expressed his sympathy for the common people. His representative work, Lei Si Jing, occupied an important place in books of science and technology in ancient China. For the first time in history, the book described in detail the structures and measures of a Quyuan(屈原) plough. Among other developments of the Tang dynasty, the book describes the development of farming tools like a rake, whetstone, stoneroller and gives instructions on how to go about leveling a threshing floor.
